Overall objective:
To enhance the knowledge and understanding of the complexities of HIV /AIDS in relation to older people in Maharashtra, India
Description:
We propose to achieve the following objectives….
Specific Objectives
1. To understand the impact on older people in terms of getting infected and being affected by HIV /AIDS.
2. To explore the underlying factors related to the impact, for example- gender, cultural and social norms, stigma and discrimination issues etc.
3. To develop, test, and validate a methodology to estimate the impact of HIV /AIDS on older caregivers.
4. To create a body of evidence on the needs and contributions of older people with respect to HIV /AIDS.
5. To work with the above to advocate for policy and programme interventions with the Government, donors, NGOs, and civil society for supporting programmes for older people, which may include capacity building in terms of home-based care, and provider attitudes and support.
6. To explore the feasibility of conducting a multi-centric study based on the research methodology developed for this pilot project for other parts of Maharashtra and for the rest of India.
As key outputs of the project, we are expecting :
1. Demographic data in terms of the elderly infected and affected
2. Thus giving some data on vulnerability issues, magnitude of the problem in these specified districts, economic impact, etc.
3. Qualitative information regarding risk perception, access to information, services, especially care and support etc.
