Supporting the needs and roles of older women and men severely affected by HIV/AIDS in Thailand
Abstract:
Late last year ,we conducted a study to assess situation of older people affected by HIV/AIDS (50+) in 26 villages in 2 provinces in northern Thailand. The purposes are:
1) To better understand the situation of older people affected by HIV/AIDS, including how they are affected and their needs and concerns, and how they currently being addressed.
2) To produce viable and useful information for project implementation in the future.
3) To raise awareness and advocate for the inclusion of older people among organizations working on HIV/AIDS or the ageing issues.
379 affected older people were identified. The three main approaches used to collect information from the target villages included a survey, participatory consultations, and interviews with service providers and older people affected by HIV/AIDS. 246 were interviewed and 211 took part in focus group discussions. The study report is being written.
