My research looks at how HIV/AIDS is impacting on the older people living in the informal settlements of Nairobi, Kenya. The two major issues facing the elderly, especially in Africa, are poverty and HIV/AIDS. Studies have shown that the majority of old people in the developing world are living below the poverty line and their lives are associated with problems of poor diet, ill health and inadequate housing. No where are these problems more apparent than in the slum settlements of most urban centers.
